I am not familiar with the world of gyms and fitness centers, matter of fact today was my first day in the gym with my friend.

As the gym instructor took me an through the equipments, he told my friend to try four sets on the bench press, followed by some dumbbell exercise on the bench; I’ve forgotten the technical words for it.

Unclear what sets were, we asked and he said it was all the exercise repetition you could do before stopping for a break. We asked further how many repetitions make a cycle, and he noted that a repetition can be premeditated or done till failure, meaning till your muscles are exhausted.

This statement instantly struck me as a lesson to be learnt. Life is like the body in a gym. We do multiple sets of exercise in crisis and hard experiences, and in each set, repetitions of experience. Sometimes, we go through the repetition and end the set standing, and other times, we repeat until we break down in failure. Yet, at the end of the day, we find out that we have grown through the daily stress and strain.

It’s okay to reach your limits, to reach your point of exhaustion and stop. It is all part of the growth process. Only remember that you are stopping to reflect, refresh and reorient your mind and you are not stopping to quit.

Gain back your energy and start the next set.

As for me, I’ll be going back to the gym tomorrow to try more sets on the machines; repetition till failure.
